We recently purchased a house with a flower garden and I was wondering how to tell if my minuet weigela is dead or if I should just trim it down. There doesn't seem to be any sign of life. What should I do?

Weigela blooms on new wood so pruning your shrub back in April or May should encourage new growth that will produce flowers. The old stems quite often look dead but they generally have quite a bit of life in them. Prune them back and they will respond by developing healthy new growth.
