Johnnie,

There are many shade loving plants to choose from. I suggest if you want turf in part of the area to go with St. Augustine as it is the most shade tolerant. You may also want to trim the trees some to thin out some of the branches and brighten the shade a lot. This will greatly increase your options for plants to use.

Some flowers that like shade are impatiens, wishbone flower, gingers of various types, Hinckley's columbine, Turk's Cap and pentas. Then there are colorful foliage plants such as Chicken Gizzard, Persian Shield, Caladiums, and Purple Heart. Groundcovers and perennnial greenery such as Asian Jasmine, various types of ferns including Holly Fern, Mondograss, Liriope, Aztec grass (a type of Mondograss), and Cast Iron Plant.
Shrub like plants for shady areas include Japanese Aralia, Aucuba, and Chinese Holly.
