The Q&A Archives: Deer Resistant

Question: Can you suggest bushes and plants to incorporate into the yard landscape that will be unappealing to deer?

Answer: You can search on Monrovia's website for plants they consider to be deer resistant even though the category doesn't show up on the Select Attributes list. Go to Plant Search. Type 'deer resistant' in the keyword box. Then select the category of plant (tree, evergreen shrub, etc.) and your cold zone from the drop-down menus. Click on Search at the bottom of the page. A list of potential plants will come up. If you go to each plant description and click on 'Attributes' Deer Resistant will show.

If animals are hungry enough they will eat just about anything. There are many lists of "deer resistant" plants, but keep in mind that plants recommended for another part of the country may not do well in your area, and that animals in one region may eat something that those in another don't! Fences are usually the only guaranteed method of foiling deer. Good luck!
