The Q&A Archives: Iris

Question: Can an Iris change color from year to year?

Answer: Theoretically, no. However I have heard a few isolated reports of this happening. I suspect either a seedling has somehow grown up within the clump, or possibly the cultivar was an unstable one and the plant has reverted. If the change is a very minor one, it might be due to soil and weather conditions, too. I hope this helps.
