The type of "seed carpets" you are looking for are widely available in the spring at retail stores such as WalMart, KMart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Hill's, etc. You will start seeing them become available in mass quantity around March-April.I have tried these myself and found them to be only marginally reliable. Burpee sells "Flower Tapes", which are 15' long pieces of paper tape embedded with various flower seeds. (You can cut them to any length you like.) I have a hunch these might work better than the flower carpets--the seedlings all come up in a row, so you'll know which are weeds to be pulled, and which are your flower seedlings.
