I have been told that palm trees are housing grounds for roaches and not good to use in your back yard. is that true

Julie,

Roaches will live in a variety of areas where they can hide in organic matter. Mulches and tree bark are two examples. Palm trees are also a possibility. However you could always treat your tree with an appropriate insecticide to destroy in roaches present.
