The Q&A Archives: Allium

Question: Hi; I have some allium and the leaves are turning brown ot the tips. Not looking so good. I have them planted in fuill sun and well drained soil. What could be wrong with them?
Thanks, Jim.

Answer: I think what you are seeing is normal. After they bloom, the foliage continues to grow for a bit and then eventually dies back and dries up completely. The bulb goes dormant for the summer. It is important to let the foliage grow and mature naturally because this is how the bulbs rebuilds its strength to bloom again next year.
