| My flowering crabapple tree is about six years old. It flowered after having it a couple years, but nothing since. I've used fertilizer spikes, but still no blossoms. I have other apple trees, and no problem with them. What can I do to get this tree to blossom again in Spring? |
| A reluctant ornamental crabapple isn't a very happy thought. It's possible that you've over-fertilized, causing the tree to put all of its energy into growing new stems and leaves, at the expense of flowers. If the tree is otherwise healthy, gets full sunshine, and hasn't been pruned too severely, then it should bloom. Don't fertilize this year and don't prune. Watch the tree for new growth this spring, just to make sure it's not in a state of decline. Other than that, just exercise a bit more patience. I'm sure it will reward you with blossoms one day soon! |
