What is the best way to get rid of "Ground Ivy" in my yard? It's taking over, and is very hard to get rid of. I have used Weed & Feed but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Can you give me some idea on what I might use on my lawn to rid this terrible weed. |
If you're talking about the standard garden variety of ivy (Hedera), then you've got a formidable job ahead of you. Ivy spreads by underground roots and above ground stems. It roots easily and is difficult to eradicate. The weed and feed product you used is not effective against broad-leaved plants like ivy. To really get rid of the stuff, you need to dig the plants out, roots and all. Perhaps another way to discourage ivy is by mowing the area continually to get rid of the leaves. Without leaves, the plant cannot manufacture food and the roots will eventually run out of energy - but it will take a long time, and even a few little leaves can keep the plant growing. Good luck with your project! |
