The Q&A Archives: green columnar juniper

Question: i just bought 2 green columnar juniper topiary trees and would like to know how to water and feed them if i put them in a container on my front porch. also how large of a container do i need and do i need a container that has holes in the bottom.
thank you... sonja

Answer: Sonja,

Use as large of a container as you can to provide more rooting area. This way you won't have to water quite so often and the plant is less likely to quickly get into stress from a lack of water. You do need to choose a container that has drainage holes to avoid oversaturated conditions in the lower parts of the container if you ever overwater. Water often enough to maintain a moist soil mix and fertilize monthly with a soluble plant food at the label rate.
