Hi. I asked a question before and never got an answer, so hoping this goes okay. Pruned an old and healthy pussy willow, partly because Winter killed a large branch. When done shaping, now looks in great need of new branches and leaves! What is best way to fertilize and make sure we didn't kill this beloved plant!!

I'm sorry you never received an answer. I don't have a way to go back and check on anything so I don't know what happened. Maybe the answer went to your spam file? (My yahoo address does that a lot.)

Pussy willows really grow best with ample moisture, so you might try a top dressing of compost and possibly some general purpose granular or slow release fertilizer applied per the label directions, and keeping it evenly moist. A two to three inch deep layer of organic mulch can also help in keeping the soil moister longer during dry spells. If you pruned off more than 25 percent or so of the branches you may see an incredible amount of growth regardless as it rebounds on the established root system. Enjoy your pussy willow!
