The Q&A Archives: transplanting and dividing non blooming iris

Question: I have Iris that used to bloom great, but now the trees have grown and they do not get enough sun to bloom. I need to move them as well as divide them. Can I move them In May/June and they be o.k. for next year? OR Do I need to wait until Fall.

Answer: You can move them now but they definitely would not bloom this year if you do it in the spring. Most people suggest waiting until late summer however in my experience if they are in so much shade it is just as well to move them in the spring and let them try to grow beginning sooner in the better location. Good luck wiht your iris!
