| I'm not familiar with the "nutrient film" technique, so I'll give you what information I have from a book called Hydroponic Crop Production, by Joe Romer. Butterhead lettuces grow well hydroponically. They are fast-growing, warm-season plants resistant to early bolting. They store relatively well. Crisphead lettuces are less popular for hydroponic growing, because they tend to bolt. Looseleaf lettuces are popular because they grow quickly. They are sometimes sold with roots intact and so they have a long shelf life. Cos lettuces are not popular for hydroponics, because they are quite slow-growing.
