Do Southern indica azaleas require deadheading? We have a client who said that she was tired of deadheading azaleas, although we don't know if her experience was with Southern indica azaleas. Also, would you recommend the 'Orange Pride' southern indica azalea for the San Francisco Bay Area? Thanks!

Although it isn't necessary to deadhead Southern Indica azaleas, doing so sometimes prompts a rebloom. And, snapping the trusses off the plants makes them look more attractive than waiting for the trusses to fall off. It's a matter of personal preference rather than a necessity.

'Orange Pride 'is a good choice for your growing region, as are 'Formosa'- rose purple - single - 3 inch diameter; 'Fielders White' - white - single - 2 3/4 inch diameter; 'George L. Taber'- light pink - single - 3 inch diameter; 'Judge Solomon' - pink - single - 3 inch diameter; 'Mrs. G. G. Gerging' - white - single - 3 inch diameter; 'President Clay' - orange-red - single - 2 1/4 inch diameter;
'Pride of Mobile' - deep rose pink - single - 2 1/2 inch diameter.

Best wishes with your landscaping!
