| In have several dwarf maiden grasses I believe they are called fountain grass---some are coming out and some are shooting up just a few green shoots...what is wrong with them? |
| It's a little early in the season for your plants to put out extensive growth so you may just need to wait a little longer to see more growth. Maiden grass (Miscanthus) generally forms a larger and larger clump, but it does not spread wildly. Eventually it may begin to turn hollow in the center, showing a sort of donut shape to its growth from the ground. At that point it should be divided to restore vigor to the plant. You can also take divisions to try to control its size and to propagate it. Take divisions in early spring. You may dig up the entire plant or just a part of it. Replant immediately at the same depth as it grew originally, keep well watered while it becomes established just as you would for any new plant. Good luck with your ornamental grasses. |
