Hydrangeas prefer morning sun and shade from hot afternoon sunshine. Or, filtered shade from the afternoon sun. If you plant it in full sun, the leaves will droop all afternoon, but the plant normally recovers by the next morning. If you have a choice, find a well-draining site with morning sun and afternoon shade.
