Are there any flowering shade perennials that will grow under a black walnut tree?

Yes, there are some plants that you can grow under the black walnut tree. In general you need to avoid plants that require an acid soil and also select plants that can tolerate the dry shade and root competition found under a large tree. Hosta, Liriope, Viola, and daffodils all do well there. You may find additional plants you like on the following list.
