| I bought a chinese evergreen plant a week ago and put in a low lit area and also double potted to increase the humidity. After that I sprayed some All Seasons horticultural spray oil on the leaves. About 4 days later I noticed some dark patches on the new forming leaves near the stem. I also sprayed this oil on a couple of plants that I have outside . One is a spider plant and the other is a elephant ear plant. Within 3 days after spraying the leaves on both plants have turned all brown and curled up and started drooping down . After this I cut the leaves off of both of the plants outside and I sprayed the leaves on the house plant chinese evergreen with water . I noticed after the spraying that one of the leaves was black on the tip and and top periphery of the plant. I removed this leaf . All of the rest of the leaves on the chinese evergreen are green . What do you think happened and will do you think I will be able to save my plants. |
| Horticultural oil is typically sprayed on dormant plants, not plants with green leaves. The oil residue effectively suffocated the leaves of your plants. Some leaves are less susceptible to the effects of horticultural oil and others are extremely sensitive. The best course of action I can recommend is to use products according to label directions and to make sure that both the pest and the plant you're using it on are listed on the label. As you've discovered, not all products are safe to use on all plants against all pests. At this point, all you can do is continue to prune any leaves that die and keep the oil spray away from these plants in the future. Best wishes with your plants! |
