I have a very shady spot in front of a large blank stucco wall. I've thought of planting an illicium floridanum or henryi. It must grow fast enough to clear the top of a 4 foot fence. How fast will it grow?
Thanks

Illicium floridanum has what is considered a moderate growth rate and although it will reach 15' under suitable conditions, it may take several years to reach that height. It should clear the top of a 4' fence in only 2-3 years. It's an interesting shrub or small tree, though, so I think it would be worth having in the garden.
