Answer: I'd be almost certain that the poor drainage and wet winter has caused the symptoms you describe. Soggy soils eliminate oxygen, which the roots need to remain alive. I'd dig the laurels up, cut away any mushy or dead roots, then either raise the soil level and replant, or plant your laurels elsewhere - in a drier site. If you dig them now, you may be able to save them. Hope so!
