Sensation Lilac is propagated by tissue culture rather than grafted onto a rootstock. It would be quite unusual for it to revert (tissue culture produces an exact clone of the parent). I'd look for other conditions - cultural or environmental - for the change in color. Could be a result of herbicides used in the area; soil pH that's really out of whack, or even bleaching by the sunshine.
