Evergreen trees/shrubs for Privacy - Knowledgebase Question

We just built a house in a neighborhood and I would like to plant evergreens around our backyard for a border and privacy. What would you suggest? I would prefer something that grows fast. Also, how far apart would you plant them in order to get the best results?

To be honest with you, there are literally hundreds of suitable plants for your purpose. And, the spacing will depend upon which plant you choose for your screening hedge. Here's an address to a website hosted by the University of Tennessee with loads of publications. The one that will be most helpful is entitled " Evergreen Trees for Screens and Hedges in the Landscape (SP517)" and the publication not only describes each of the recommended plants but discusses soil prep, planting, maintenance and spacing of the plants. I know you'll find it helpful and you can print a copy for future reference. Here's the address:
