What is the extent of the root system of the star jasmine? |
As with most plants, this vine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) will have a root system proportionate to its top growth so the roots are extensive -- especially when it reaches maturity when it can grow as large as 40 feet. It is also deep rooted which enables it to be quite drought resistant. If you are concerned about planting next to a foundation, the roots themselves would not necessarily cause a problem. However, if there is an existing crack or weakness or imperfection in the foundation (or a utility pipe), the roots can make it worse. I hope this helps. |
