Unless the growth or leaf color is poor, regular feeding isn't required. You may want to mulch around the base of the tree with 2-3 inches of organic material to slow water evaporation and to provide nutrients to the surface roots of your maple while it's young. Apply mulch in the spring, keeping it a few inches from the trunk of the tree. If you do decide to feed your maple, spring is best, just as new growth begins.
