I have a young weeping Japanese maple that has a band of yellow paint on the bark. It may have come from an overspray when someone was defining landscape boundries. How can I remove this hideous paint?

Unfortunately I don't know of a safe way to remove the paint. The strong solvents used to remove paint would damage the bark and harm the tree. I think you'll have to wait for it to weather off. Perhaps they used a water based paint that will wash or flake off quickly.
