I live in Houston Tx. Other lawns in my neighborhood seem to be experiencing the same thing. Dead areas through out the lawn. I'm told there is a bug/pest that eats the roots and that is what is killing it. What kind of pesticide do I need to purchase to stop the entire lawn from being killed.

Rhonda,

I'm not so sure you are seeing insect damage at this time. My guess is that you are seeing Take All Patch. I suggest that you take a sample from the edge of the dead area of turf with some roots and soil attached (sick not dead grass) and place it in a ziplock bag with your name and phone number in it. If you also have a photo of the lawn areas that is good too. Take the sample and photos to your County Extension Office (281-855-5600) to see if they can help diagnose the problem and recommend an appropriate course of action.

The following web site has more info on Take All Patch. Click on the words "read publication":
