| I have four Solanum jasminoides (potato vines) they are in four seperate large containers on my deck. They were planted in 2004 by a landscaper. They are on a drip system. We hoped they'ed fill in a lattice fence, but the vine itself looks real sparse. They seem to get alot of flowers, but not alot of leaves. The first 6 months after they were planted they seemed full but since then they don't look lush. I've tried pruning back lightly but that didn't seem to work. They do get some morning and afternoon sun. The fence faces north. |
| Are fast growing vines for sun or part shade. They blooms most of the year with clusters of one inch white flowers with yellow centers. (Semi-deciduous below 20?F.) These plants are drought, wind, and heat tolerant and respond well to shearing. If your plants look a little sparse and bare near the bottom, cut them back hard. Wherever you make a cut, new shoots will develop which should produce lots of healthy leaves and flowers. Best wishes with your potato vines! |
