| What you describe is a parasitic plant called dodder. It begins as a seed and once it sprouts, it attaches itself to other plants, which is where it gets its nutrients. Controlling dodder can be difficult unless you pull it out in early spring before it attaches itself to landscape plants and before it flowers and sets seeds. Once the seeds are produced, they fall onto the soil where they will sprout the nexts spring. Your best course of action is to pull all visible parts of the dodder now. Depending upon the plants you are growing in the bed, you may be able to use a pre-emergent herbicide in the bed which will prevent the germination of dodder seeds. Best wishes with your garden! |
