Where do I deadhead spent rose flowers, just below the flower or down to the first leaves? Thanks for any help.

You would always cut just above a leaf to avoid leaving a bare stub. You can cut at the first leaf, or a bit further down if that would help the plant look better. You do not want to cut it back too far as the leaves are needed for photosynthesis so the plant can build strength to rebloom. I hope this helps.
