The Q&A Archives: blue atlas cedar

Question: I just planted a small blue atlas cedar which came with a wooden stake taped to the trunk up almost the entire length.

should this stake remain taped to the trunk? if so, for how long and do we need to attach a longer stake as the tree gets taller?
Thank You,

Answer: The stake needs to remain in place until the trunk is thick and strong enough to be securely self supporting. In the meantime, loosen the tape periodically to prevent it from constricting the bark and damaging the tree.
