The Q&A Archives: potted plants

Question: my son has a small porch at his apartment. he wants potted plants but nothing that looks femine. also, it has to be able to withstand hot texas heat

Answer: Celilia,

I would consider fanflower, purslane and narrowleaf zinnia for summer. It would also be good to try a Mystic Spires salvia, Batface cuphea, or dwarf crape myrtle if the area is very sunny. For a larger plant a dwarf juniper shrub or if the area is shady a large houseplant would be good.
