The Allamanda (cathartica) is a vine which can be maintained as a shrub by pruning. The flowers resemble large golden trumpets which are produced most of the year. The Allamanda is highly suceptible to nematodes which can retard its growth. Mulch them well. A soil with plenty of organic matter helps in controlling nematodes. I suggest you prune your allamandas rather severely in middle to late February. Fertilize them after pruning. Allamandas prefer full sun, but they will do very well in light shade. |
