In a container, you would use a water soluble or slow release fertilizer with an analysis of 10-10-10 plus minors or (similar proportions) per the label directions. In the garden, each spring you would use a general purpose granular or slow release fertilizer with an analysis of 10-10-10 or similar proportions, per the label directions. A topdressing of good quality compost in spring along with using an organic mulch year round would also help feed the soil. Ideally however you would run some basic soil tests and fertilize based on the test results.
