Heard that the Ligustrum doesn't like too much fertilizer. Can you tell me what you know about fertilizing the Ligustrum japonicum (Wax Leaf Privet). What type? How often? Etc. Thank you. |
What you've heard is right; Ligustrum doesn't like a heavy dose of fertilizer, but will appreciate light feeding in the spring and again in late summer. I use a 6-6-6 ratio of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. You could use an 8-8-8 instead, if that's more readily available. Or, a half-strength dilution of a water-soluable fertilizer (Peter's or Miracle-Gro) can be used every 2-3 weeks if you enjoy getting out in the garden and feeding your plants all during the growing season. Best wishes with your garden! |
