I received a dendrobium orchid as a gift. After the blooms fell off, I cut back the stalks. One of the stalks lost all its leaves, and appears to be dead. I have been misting the plant with orchid fertilizer, and have some new growth coming up from the roots. At what point would I cut back the old growth completely?

Mary,

When it yellow and/or turns brown. Dendrobiums can be a bit challenging. Let me refer you to the following web sites for more detailed information on growing them.
