| My new outside patio will be flagstone layed on screening material. Inbetween the flagstone I will have to fill it with a material called bonding sand. My question: what kind of vegetation can I get to grow in the spaces between the flagstone? Would moss be appropriate? p.s. the patio is in full sun 3/4 of the day. |
| If you are using a material with a special bonding agent included in it that causes it to set up, then the bonding sand will not support plant growth and is actually intended to help prevent anything from growing between the pavers. If you use plain sand, you could possibly grow creeping thyme or creeping sedum between the stones; you will need to use a plant that enjoys full direct sun with reflected heat and a very well drained soil. (Moss will not survive in that type of location.) After the initial planting, you will need to water and weed until they become established and fill in the area. Your local professional nursery staff may have additional or different suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of how your patio is being constructed. Good luck with your project! |
