There are several different kinds of Maranta that are called prayer plant because they fold up at night. These do best in bright but indirect light (such as an east window and behind a sheer curtain or several feet back from teh window). Average home temperatures are fine but they prefer high humidity. Avoid hot or cold drafts. Use a potting mix formulated for container plants and keep the soil slightly moist like a wrung out sponge; do not let it dry out completely. If there is a drainage saucer under the pot, empty the saucer of any excess water after watering. Fertilize spring to fall with a water soluble fertilizer for houseplants with an analysis of 10-10-10 plus minors or similar proportions. Use the lower rate on the label. In winter, water a bit less as they will be growing more slowly and need less water. I'm sorry you had trouble with your plant, I hope you will try again.
