| I've had a terrible problem getting spinach and pea seeds to germinate. Any suggestions? |
| Both spinach and peas are cool season crops and can be planted in the ground in early spring. Usually when seeds don't germinate it indicates the soil is too wet and they rot, or birds have uncovered and stolen them. Try planting your seeds about thefirst of March and covering the row with a floating row cover (like Reemay or another spun-fiber fabric). Plant the seeds no deeper than twice their width so the plants wont' run out of energy before the sprouts reach the surface of the soil. Don't let the planting bed dry out. The floating row cover can remain in place until you harvest, or you can remove it once your plants are up and growing. Better luck this year! |
