Most chipper/shredders sold for homeowners are light duty and will only handle up to about a two inch diameter branch. If this is a one-time cleanup, you might look into renting a stronger powered grinder from a local tool/equipment rental company, or a heavy duty chipper/shredder that hooks up to a tractor. The latter can usually take up to four or five inch diameter pieces depending on design and power.
