Overwatering which results in soggy soils can actually suffocate plant roots by driving out all oxygen. Different plants respond differently to the stress but the most common symptoms are wilting, yellowing and dropping foliage, followed by wilting of stems. If steps are not taken to correct the problem, the entire plant will die and turn brown. Hope this is descriptive enough for you!
