I highly recommend them! Peonies are great flowers and they are a chance for gardeners in our zone to show off a bit (warmer climates can't grow them). Peonies are best planted in August and September but as a general rule you can plant them anytime in the fall until the ground freezes. It does take a while for them to really get established and put on a smashing show, but they are well worth the wait. Plant them in a sunny spot with good drainage, be sure to add lots of organic matter such as compost to the planting area. I also recommend putting in peony rings to offer support (available from most garden centers and mail order catalogs). This keeps them from leaning over when it rains...those great big blooms get heavy!
