The Q&A Archives: lantana diseases

Question: Our lantana has lost all the blooms and the leaves have a grey tint. some of the leaves have black edges. these plants are in the front yard and the backyard by the pool. they all look the same. what could it be and how do we treat it organically? we have dogs.

thank you

Answer: Larry,

Lantana normally cycles through bloom and non blooming periods but stresses can accentuate the off bloom period. Your plants may need a boost of fertilizer followed by a good watering. Use a turf type fertilizer at a rate of 1/2 cup per 25 square feet. Repeat in 4 weeks. If there is a pest involved the symptoms you described don't point clearly to it. I suggest you snip off some branches with leaves and put them in a zip close bag to take to your County Extension Office for diagnosis. Then an appropriate organic control suggestion can be made.
