| My grape vine is about 10 years old and has dove very well in the past. About 2 years ago we cut it back, and have not has grapes . What do I need to do? Thank you , Connie |
| Grape pruning can be a bit tricky because fruiting spurs must develop before the vines can produce fruit. Typically, fruit is only produced on shoots growing from one-year-old canes. If it's been two years since you cut your grapevines back, they have been busy replacing the canes they lost and developing fruiting spurs. Next year you should have grapes. For best fruit production, prune your grapevines back in December while they're dormant, being sure to leave at least two buds on each pruned-back cane. New shoots will grow from these buds and new fruiting spurs should develop to produce fruit. Don't fertilize your grapevines and be sure to water as necessary. I think you'll see some fruit development next season. Enjoy! |
