The Q&A Archives: Starting Giant Tecolote Ranunculus Tubers

Question: When should I plant ranunculus, and what is the best way to start them?

Answer: October or November would be the best time to plant Ranunculus in Albuquerque. Later planting leads to later bloom time and they do best if they bloom before the heat.

They need excellent drainage and full sun.

Plant tubers (prongs downward) six to eight inches apart and two inches deep. Water thoroughly after planting, then be careful not to rot the tubers by overwatering before they begin to grow. Protect from birds by covering with netting.

Ranunculus are pretty plants and they make great cut flowers. Enjoy!
