My Clematis is facing south-east where it gets great sun. It has never bloomed. It is on a trellis. I had planted perennial daisies below it because I had heard that the Clematis likes something on its feet. What should I do to encourage blooms? Thank you for your time! Jill

Clematis can take several years to settle in before they hit their full stride, so yours should be nearly ready to bloom in a year or two. You didn't say which clematis you're growing and that makes a difference in blooming performance since some bloom on old wood, some on new wood of the season, and some will bloom on both. In general, Clematis need an evenly moist soil and appreciate a cool root run so planting daisies beneath them is just fine. Give your plant another year or two and it should be mature enough to bloom. Enjoy!
