I planted a honey locust tree 2 years ago and it now has a caliper of about 1.5 inches at 3 ft and it is about 18 feet tall with very few branches. How can I prune shape it and encourage branching? |
Even though it's young, your Gleditsia (Honey Locust) knows what it's doing! Your tree will grow to about 75 feet tall and have spreading, arching branches. If you prune now you'll change the shape of the adult tree, and you may not be happy with the result. Let it continue to grow and put out branches on its own. Adult Honey Locust trees are majestic in any landscape where they have room to spread out. |
