I live in Houston, TX and need help on pruning asparagus ferns. It's mid-July so its hot & humid. I have 7 planted in a cicle around a large hibiscus container pot. The ferns looked great at first since all 7 were planted the same size. The problem is 2-3 ferns are growing like wild, while the others struggle to survive. How do I prune back the larger ones? Does this kill the plant? Thank you.

Kelley,

You can cut them back to the ground if you like and they will resprout just fine. Provide a little fertilize and water it in well with a good soaking and they should be back with lots of fresh new foliage in no time.
