I have had indoor ferns for over 15 years. They grow great in our home. Over the past couple months I have noticed a brown little round bump projecting from the bottom of some of the leaves. The single bump turns into a row of bumps and eventually it covers all the leaves on that particular stem. Eventually the stem dries up and dies. What is this? How do I get rid of it?

Based on your description, I think you are seeing the development of fertile fronds with spores on them. You could cut them off if you don't like them and don't want to try to collect the spores to grow more ferns. This is quite an accomplishment, you must take excellent care of your ferns!
