The Q&A Archives: Peonie foliage

Question: When can you cut the tops off of peonies?

Answer: Peony foliage should be allowed to die down on its own before you cut it off. Wait until after the first hard frost blackens the foliage (usually in mid-November) then cut it off at soil level and remove it from the garden. In the spring, when the soil warms, your peony will sprout healthy new foliage.
