We just planted a Monrovia, Amour Hibiscus and we didn't know at the time with it being a Tropical plant. We live in North Central Kansas. How do we handle this plant coming this winter, can we mulch it over winter? Thanks for the answer. DiAnn |
Tropical hibiscus should be treated as an annual in your gardening region, or you can bring them indoors for the winter months. Before you bring them indoors check them carefully for pests to avoid bringing any inside along with the plants. Bring them inside before night time temperatures drop below about 50 degrees. Reduce watering (they will need less because they are not growing much) and stop fertilizing for the winter. Trim them back as needed in late winter and early spring. Hibiscus do well in average household temperatures in bright light. Best wishes with your hibiscus. |
